This work confronts the relentless speed of erasure in pursuit of a strong national identity, particularly in the Gulf context. What does it mean to purify a nation? Over the last 6 months, during my mentorship with Egyptian photographer Laura El-Tantawy, we explored this question in depth. The work presented is a culmination of those fertile discussions about estrangement and disorientation in this particularly xenophobic time we are living through. This is an ongoing series.
